Stop 0x24 Error While Upgrading to Windows Vista
NTFS is the recommended file system to be used with Windows. But, while accessing NTFS volume or partition, when Windows Vista encounters errors that it can’t be recovered from, it gives Stop errors. At times, you observe such Stop errors when you try to upgrade to Windows Vista. The probable cause could be file system or partition structure corruption, which leads to data loss. Hence, to recover from such situations, you should use your recent data backup. But if no data backup is present, or if data backup is damaged or not updated, data recovery software can prove as valid applications to be applied for recovery.
Consider a situation, you attempt to upgrade to Windows Vista on your system and the setup fails with the below error message on screen:
“Stop: 0x00000024”
Cause
The typical reasons for the above Stop error to occur are:
- Incompatible drivers
- File system or partition structure of hard disk is damaged
Solution
To fix these errors, you should apply any of these methods:
- Try installing updated disk controller drivers of Windows Vista
- Run chkdsk to correct disk corruption issues. You can use Windows Vista installation disk to start Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and opt for ‘Repair you computer’ option. Make use of Command Prompt to run chkdsk drive: /r command and try to upgrade.
- If problem persists, perform clean installation of Windows Vista. To do so, use Windows Vista installation disk to start your system. You can first test the installation on current active partition. If it succeeds, incompatible drivers were the issue. You can then migrate the file from Windows.old folder to complete the installation. If this doesn’t resolve the existing behavior, repartition and reformat the hard disk. To restore lost data in this way, use your recent data backup. In case of any backup issues, you need to use data recovery applications.
