Thinking Outside Your Graphic Design Box
Its hard to do something different then you've done before. Its easy to return to your tried and trues that have worked for you in the past. In all things other then graphic design, this is a good idea. Sticking to a model that works for you in business is good business.
When it comes graphic design, a lot of people forget that it's art. Graphic design is an art form.
Pushing the envelope, and taking your viewer to the next level is what its about, as well as getting your clients message across. But doing it in a unique way is what burns your customers message into the mind of the viewer.
Take a US Standard Business Card for example. 2 inches by 3.5 inches. There is almost no end to the ways you can use this tiny scrap of paper. One example is to be creative in the way you layout your design. Letting your design disappear off the edge, Round cut your corners, use some Spot UV coating. These are just about industry standards, and available from almost any print shop. The point is, if I handed you a stack of random business cards, the ones that do things a bit different are the ones that your going to remember, and keep.
Business cards are not the only available option. There are Postcards, Greeting Cards, Rack Cards, Event Tickets. Many of these paper sizes can be used in new and unique ways.
Getting the creative spark is what its all about. There is nothing wrong with getting ideas, and looking at what the rest of the world is doing. Just try to give it your own flavor, don't just reproduce what others are doing. One great way to get ideas if from the PrintFirm itself. A few are starting to offer "pre-designed standards" which are designs that are already done, and the customer just needs to enter their information.
One great example is http://www.printfirm.com/. They have awesome prices, they offer a reseller program which is great for graphic designers as they can offer full print services to their clients, and PrintFirm send out all printed material in white label boxes, so you only promote yourself and your art skills, and can keep your print shop in your back pocket. The main thing that they offer that's great for ideas is that they have over 10,000 pre-desiged standards to get ideas from.
So the moral of the story, think outside of the box when it comes to your designs, and have a top notch printfirm in your back pocket. You will keep your customers happy, and nothing sends you more business then a happy customer.

Can anyone guide me on safety related design considerations & standards for a liquified chlorine tank?
We are in the process of designing first facility in Pakistan to produce Vinyl Chloride. Chlorine will be produced in-house and there will an interim storage for liquid chlorine. It is a toxic gas, we want to get the best design standard from safety viewpoint and need guidence on that.
Contact the Chlorine Institute (www.chlorineinstitue.org) and the Chlorine Council (www.c3.org) and you can begin to gather design standards and practices.
I assume that by "Vinyl Chloride" you are refering to Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM). All the VCM production processes involve not only chlorine, but a number of other significant hazards and design challenges.
I am sure you must have a significant technical staff involved in the design, but groups like the Chlorine institute can provide some help.
