Enviroment Boot

error loading operating system Operating Systems
Open your comp, then remove the disk and connect it to annother computer, then backup your data, make sure you have backed up all of your documents. Return the disk to your comp, format disk and install your operating system. Another way is to get Linux find one that can boot without installation ( I have Linux Ubuntu v7.0.4 that can do this), or Hirens boot CD, load "Mini Windows XP" as you can do backup in Windows enviroment, boot up from CD and save your documents to external drive, USB flash disk, or write them on CD, and after backup do installation of operating system. My advice. Get yourself a newer comp, at least Pentium 4 class, because your computer is no longer, as you can see, reliable to work on. Hope I Helped.

What linux version would be best?
I am semi new to linux. 2 years or so now. I just installed mandriva with xgl on my alienware pc. But i have a friend that wants to switch to linux but doesnt want to install it with dual boot on his pc until he is comfortable with it. I have DamnSmallLinux 3.1 installed on a p500, 128mb ram, everything is onboard except NIC. What would be the best distro to go with on it? DSL is very fast on here, but doesnt allow much customizing, which is what they want because they want to learn... and by learn i mean try everything he can to mess with it. So most likely it will crash alot with all the tinkering, so a installer with the OS would be nice so i dont have to go and get this and get that and setup his system every other day. I am giving him a printed out linux book... but it would just be nice to have a installer. They also would like a KDE enviroment and not so out dated looking. I had lindows 3. something on here at one point when i had more memory in it. but not as customizable.
Mandriva One should fit and is the more friendly to use (even compared to Ubuntu); Gnome is a bit lighter then KDE, Enlightenment is lighter and also stylish, very elegant. XFCE could be visually appealing, also, and is also light and recommended for older machines. All environment can be installed on every Linux, all ships with Mandriva DVD free download edition; Xubuntu, Dreamlinux (XFCE), Ebuntu, Elive (Enlightenment) Fluxbuntu (with the nice and fast Fluxbox) are all good choice, Mandriva still more suitable for what you're asking for.
