Child Friendly Holidays in Cornwall
Taking young children on holiday, can be very complicated. The obvious things, like packing enough changes of clothes (does the place you are going to have a washing machine and dryer?), making sure that you have got their special toys. You also have to think about the furniture that you need, travel cots, booster seats, those sort of things. Do you need to take plastic plates and cutlery? Will you need a stair gate? The potty, the push chair, the list just gets longer and longer? Then you realise that your car probably isn't big enough!
When you are looking for a place to stay, you need to consider things like how safe it is inside and out. Is there anywhere to play safely? At home, all this has been sorted and you have probably forgotten or take for granted the precautions you have taken.
The internet has made life so much easier these days, for finding suitable self catering accommodation and if you look for "Child-Friendly" or "Family friendly", the proprietors will have considered most, if not all of these issues and, hopefully , provided most of the stuff as well. They will usually have things on site to keep children of all ages occupied!
There are quite a few child / family friendly holiday sites in Cornwall. Amongst the best are Coombe Mill and Wringworthy Cottages. Both have made extra efforts in making their accommodation child friendly and giving kids loads to do. And you know that the more comfortable you are, that the children are playing in a safe place, the more you can relax and enjoy yourself as well.
A quick drive from the sandy beaches and pretty fishing villages of Cornwall's north lies Coombe Mill, a farm standing in 30 acres with the Camel River running through it. Because its owners are parents, they have made sure that it has been designed for young children and families in mind. Naturally, safety is extremely important, however they made certain to give young children the the freedom and adventure of a working farm. One of the favourite features is a supervised tractor ride every morning. On it, kids are able to feed the animals under the watchful eye of the farmer. The rest of the time, children are encouraged to play with and learn about the animals. The well-equipped, fenced outdoor play areas provide safe areas for them to blow off steam and an indoor play barn is there when the weather is poor. There are two fishing lakes which any guest seeking peace and quiet can rent some fishing tackle and use.
For the warm Cornish evenings, each cottage has its own BBQ outside.
Coombe Mill offers well equipped accommodation comprising of five traditional cottages, eight lodges by the Camel River, and four wooden Scandinavian lodges. As the site is open all year, all the units have heating.
Near Looe and Polperro, Wringworthy Cottages are just a few minutes' drive from the south Cornish coast. It too is family run and been designed to offer child friendly holidays. The owners have children of their own, so they know what is needed for babies and toddlers. All equipment for them is provided free of charge; from bottle warmers to cots and stair gates.
There are a lot of farm animals as well as guinea pigs and rabbits for the children and 34 acres to explore. The heated swimming pool is fenced for safety and very popular in warmer weather, while the play areas outside and barn full of children's toys will help wear the kids. The barn also has a pool table, an air hockey table, and table football for adults and older children.
There are eight traditional stone built cottages at Wringworthy each having parking, BBQ's and picnic tables next to them. They are well equipped with internet access and telephone while other items like hairdryers, bread makers, and dog crates available on request.
Outside the peak summer holiday times, well behaved dogs are welcomed at Wringworthy Cottages and Coombe Mill, at extra cost. There is plenty of space to exercise them on site and as both sites are in the country, there are plenty of local foot paths to explore.
Considerable thought has been given to help their guests have a good holiday. They both have extra wellies available in case you left them at home, on-line grocery deliveries can be catered for and, to calm the kids down at the end of the day, there are freeview colour TVs and Dvd players in all accommodation. Marvellous sandy beaches, many attractions and activities are nearby.
But the main thing they do, is provide you with a child friendly holiday by safely entertaining the children thus letting you have a downtime as well. And you won't have to take as much stuff as well!
