Studying in China what location would you suggest?
Hello, I'm a Canadian and I am looking for Chinese immersion studies.
I don't need help finding a course, but wanted suggestions on location. I want a city, but also access to smaller towns..without a 15 hour car ride. Perhaps I am asking too much? I've been interested in doing this for almost 10 years now, and want basically eat, breath, live the experience. You can learn anything if you don't go full tilt!
Also, any suggestions about being there? I know it will be total culture shock, but that actually keeps me going!
Shanghai's as good a place as any. Live in the suburban areas and it's not the modern cityscape that downtown is (plus it's cheaper) if you want some of that "culture shock". With new super-express train service smaller towns aren't too hard to reach; heck, you can even go to Hong Kong entirely by train if you want (recommended because it's way cheaper than a plane ticket and you arrive in Kowloon).
