New kitchen and bath pipes - water has odd smell?
I just had a kitchen and bath installed in my basement within the past couple of weeks. My water now has an odd smell. My contractor told me that it was the solder residue. Is this harmful in baking and to drink? When will it go away?
It's not supposed to be harmful or the EPA would've banned it. However, I would suggest you buy water for a few weeks and/ or let the water run through the pipes for a while. If you buy your water, that could be expensive, but if you have a well, it shouldn't be a problem, just don't let it run for hours and hours. Regardless, in time the odor and any residue will go away.
