Microsoft Word Vista Headers/Page Numbers?
My document starts off with a cover page (page 1) followed by a bunch of arbitrary pages. I want my page numbers to start off on page 2, so that my pages start counting after the cover page. I have different headers I want to add on each page (Table of Contents, Summary), but I can't get everything to work. If I add a section break, my page numbers get screwed up. If I change that, the cover page ends up with a page numbering of 0, and a header appears on the cover page as well.
tl;dr: I basically want the page numbers to count continuously after the cover page and have different headers for each section excluding on top of the cover page. Please help.
You have a complicated situation, but you're on the right track with sections. Here are some tips to help you get the rest done.
1. You can disconnect the headers and footers of one section from the previous section. Double-click in the header or footer and click the Same As Previous tab that appears on the header/footer. Using this, you can change the header/footer for the Cover page to not include the page number.
2. You can set the page numbering for a section to start at one or any other number you choose. On the Insert tab on the Ribbon, click Page Number->Format Page number.
3. You can even set the page numbering for a section to be in Roman numerals. Same area as Step 2.
