What Rabbits Eat Shouldn't Be A Guessing Game

Are you a new rabbit owner, or perhaps you already own one or more? Or maybe you are thinking of getting a new addition for the household? If you are wondering what rabbits eat, or if what you're feeding your pets is correct, read on.

First, it depends on what age your rabbit is. Baby rabbits, bunnies if you will, have different nutritional needs from grown rabbits. If you have rabbits less than 7-months of age, this would be classified as bunnies.

It's important to ensure that a rabbit meets its nutritional requirements, just like all other pets, animals, and yes, humans too. Rabbits can live as a pet from 8-12 years, especially when spayed or neutered, so feeding your rabbit good food will ensure a healthy and happy life.

Rabbits are herbivores, in other words vegetarian. Much like wild rabbits munch on grass, pet rabbits need the same. However, this is given in the form of hay which is dried grass. Pellets are given to rabbits as well as this provides them with fiber and other nutrients.

Vegetables should be given on a daily basis, but not just any kind, you have to make sure that it's safe for your rabbit. Fruit is given as a treat to adult rabbits. Always wash veggies and fruit, prior to giving them to your rabbit.

Rabbits have quite the sensitive digestive system, so when introducing new foods to a rabbit, you have to give a small amount. Also, it's important not to switch foods suddenly, but rather integrate then wean off the original food.

Watch to see that your rabbit doesn't have diarrhea, and how it takes to the food. If it's all good, then you can give more of that particular food.

Rabbits must have fresh water at all times, whether given by water bottle or in a dish bowl. Actually, using a bowl for water would be more natural to a rabbit.

How do you stop your rabbit from getting board?

My rabbit is a Nether land Lop eared rabbit (if that makes any difference)
And i read somewhere that rabbits get really, really, board.

I was wondering what I can do to keep it from getting board like toys, exercise,different food,quality time. What ever that works for you!

My rabbit is a girl... o.O

My personal favourite rabbit toy is an empty toilet roll (without the paper) stuffed with hay. It is dirt cheap, easy, fun for the bunny to play with, environmentally friendly, and nutritious!

You can also buy commercially made hollow ball things that you can put food inside. The bunny has fun rolling the ball around to get the food out, and gets some exercise too!

Feeding your rabbit a healthy variety of food helps to keep them interested in life, too. Sometimes a bunny gets bored just eating the same thing day after day after day, so try to provide a variety.

Finally, consider investing in a rabbit harness and leash, so that you can take your rabbit out for a 'walk'. Your rabbit can get some exercise, and can also explore its surroundings and nibble the greenery that is growing around.

P.S. Did you mean a HOLLAND Lop? As far as I know, there is no such thing as a Netherland Lop. Holland lops are very popular pets in the US.
