How can I improve my math speed?

I will be entering 12th class(intermediate 2nd year) now and I have jotted down all my weak points in the 1st year which I hope to improve this time.Among them my weakest point was my speed in mathematics.I am preparing for IIT-JEE 2009 & I think all my concepts are clear but I take a lot of time to do calculations and waste my time in the exam.Please can u all suggest any methods to improve my weakness..........

What type of calculations? Are you able to use a calculator?

Other than practicing all your weak topics, it will be good to practice past year papers to see what type of questions they would come up with. (though you should not spot topics)

You must be familiarise yourself well with every topic, and be able to do every type of questions that are given to you. This is to help train your brain so that it can recognise "patterns" as to how a question would work.

For example, certain question would need certain steps and formulas. So the more questions you do, the better it would be because the moment you read a familiar kind of questions, immediately your brain will start flashing you with all the steps required as well as possible formulas needed.

This would save you a lot of time in thinking and if you count that as calculation time.

Also the more you practice, the less likely you will need to remember all the formulas because they would be at your fingertips.
