Word 2002, the fight of dell and microsft?

Windows gave me the 2002 product code that I am suppose to have since I lost mine when I changed hard drives. IT WONT WORK! I have microsoft suite 2006, and word 2002. We've checked the product code multiple times with Microsoft but gave up when the program still rejected it telling me to call dell, dell says they cant do anything since its a microsoft program and tells me to call microsoft, and then they redirect me to dell...an endless battle of failure with me loosing the program my entire college career thrives on. Any incites or information would be muchly appreciated.

I have windows XP and a Inspiron 640m. The new hard drive was purchased straight from dell so its defiantly compatible.

The "Microsoft Suite 2006" software bundle that came with your Dell should be supported directly by Dell. You can try one more time by telling Dell you installed a new hard drive but lost the Cd's for the software bundle that came with your computer and could they please send you a new bundle to replace your lost one.

But they might not.

Since you are a college student you can purchase the latest copy of Microsoft Word at the incredibly reduced "student rate". Your school should sell the student rate software (even small community colleges and trade colleges have them). Honestly, that's the route I would suggest. It would be so much less hassle, and if you save the receipt, you can write-off the purchase on your taxes as school supplies.

This way you can get a much newer version of Word without the headache and in much less time. But this time save your product code!

Don't forget to save your hard drive receipt for taxes, too!

(I was able to get the entire Office XP bundle from College of the Sequoias in California for like $49)
