Video Card

Confuse to choose a Video card
A graphic / video card is a computer component ( a loaded circuit board ) that determines the screen output or video display from the computer. It is also recognized as the graphics card, graphics adapter, display adapter or video adapter.
The video card is either placed directly on the mother board or in an expansion slot. The intended use determines which type to use.
Exactly what to look for when buying a video card
1. Figure out how the pc would be used. Will it be for computer games or perhaps for ordinary encoding?
You might find several types of video cards for various uses.
2. RAM is resolution recommended to meet the video output needed.
The memory of the video card is significant for speed this is because it holds the common operands for those images. Since the video card can access its own memory faster compared to the mother board, the images are displayed faster.
3.Mother board and Video card format compatibility.
A mother board doesn't support many video cards. Some mother boards just have the GPUs or graphics processing units which maybe adequate for an average business or home use but not applicable where more graphics capabilities are expected. A GPU can be described as video card's own processing unit.
Mother boards might have the following expansion slots: AGP slots, standard PCI slots, 1xPCI EXpress slots, 16xPCI Express slots. Be sure the video card and the slot where it's going to be installed are compatible
The 16XPCI Express slot has compatibility with more video cards, therefore it is advisable to buy this card for your new computer. The next newest slot is the AGP slot which came before 16xPCIExpress.
Minimal recommended slot is the PCI slot because there are only a few video cards suitable for it and many of them are the slow , expensive type.
4. TV output capability
Not every video cards have this capability. You should definitely check this out.
5. The fan on the video card has to be working to prevent over heating of parts which reduces its performance.
6. Price- how much are you able to afford to invest?
The compatibility of computer components figure out how the device functions. In the case of video cards, there is more need tocheck for compatibility as a consequence of various models developed to meet various needs.
Incompatibility is expensive, for how will you install a video if it doesn't fit in the expansion slot?

What video card is compatible with my laptop?
I would like to upgrade the video card on my Gateway laptop computer. It currently has an Intel Core 2 duo processor and a mobile intel 965 express chipset family. What kinds of video cards are compatible? I need something at least the level of a NVIDA GeForce 6800 or greater. I have limited knowledge about computers and if anymore information is needed please let me know.
Unlike Desktop graphics cards, which are limited only by available slots, Laptop graphics cards are hard to find, and even harder to replace.
Laptop GPUs are not cards at all, but GPU chips soldered into the motherboard, so are the CPUs - meaning you have to melt the metal solder to take them out. This is the way most laptops today are made. You'll have to be a real expert to be able to swap them successfully - even then success isn't 100%. Manufacturers will not take them back for an upgrade.
Unless you have a laptop with a separate graphics unit or an MXM slot, you won't be able to upgrade/replace it.
The only option you have left is to use an Expresscard-adpated graphics unit, but these are relatively new, relatively unknown, and pretty hard to find. Here's an example: http://ati.amd.com/technology/xgp/index.html
